How Lambton College helped me achieve my goals:
Programs are very intense with the latest study material and a lot of practical knowledge is passed onto students. The first semester was brushing up on Business English, using computer applications, Accounts, Economics and Marketing which helped me gain tremendous knowledge.

    Name: Ashish Rai

    Graduation Year: 2016
    Current Employer: Cestar College

    Why I chose Lambton College
After completing my PG and MBA from University of Cardiff, England. I wanted to explore North America. After researching many schools here I chose Lambton as this was the only college which had specialised courses with co-op and program the structure was very specific matching the current and future skill set requirement in today’s competitive market. While doing research there were many negative comments and reviews about Lambton. However, being an explorer and research enthusiast I still chose Lambton and proved many people wrong. As none of the colleges in Ontario have such specific courses, friendly management and probably the only college where requests are processed within a day and the only college where the director Mr Michael Vourakes is available for walk-in hours to see students along with other management personals. I have studied at many business schools and universities to meet someone from top management was a lengthy process where you need to explain your reasons for meeting someone from top management, then if they think reasons are genuine then you need to book an appointment where it will take minimum one week..

How Lambton College prepared me for my current position
The courses taught at Lambton are very specific and technical. The very basic foundation for any professional is customer service knowledge and skillset. Lambton professors are best in teaching these courses. Yes, they have special customer service courses along with many others which always come in handy.

How Lambton College helped me achieve my goals
Programs are very intense with the latest study material and more practical knowledge is passed onto students. The first semester was brushing up on Business English, using computer applications, Accounts, Economics and Marketing which helped me gain tremendous knowledge.

Advice for future Lambton College international students
My advice is, don’t listen to what others have to say. Their and your needs may be different, goals may be different. First, do your own research, turn up 15 minutes before for every class. Don’t just choose a college as they have fancy buildings and big cafeterias. These things aren’t going to help you get a job, what you study inside the classroom is going to help. Take the example of Lehman Brothers, The Kingfisher Group, Sahara Group, Aeropostale and Danier these are few of many big brands which made headlines once for being great companies. However, if we see the stock market you will see the truth. Many of these companies have filed for bankruptcy. I am not badmouthing or highlighting the failure of these brand names, this was just my analysis and an example when many people tell me that University or college is so big and they have big campuses. Lambton started small like every other school, college or business, but today if you see Lambton has quadruple the number of students they get every year and its skyrocketing and its increasing. Be confident, bold and honest and study hard, this is few of many pieces of advice I can give.

Knowing the differences between all the products and services the bank offers. I was able to overcome this with the help of my Manager who coached me regularly.

How Lambton College prepared you for your co-op work term
My involvement with Enactus in the college boosted my confidence and developed my interpersonal and presentation skills. My classroom courses like WDI (workplace diversity) prepared me for how to work with my colleagues (all of whom are Canadians); the course taught me what to expect, how to relate and the cultural differences and how to adapt. Courses like Selling, Retailing and Marketing also prepared me for handling objections, spotting opportunities and consumer behaviour. All of these skills contributed to my success during my co-op work term.

Advice for new students to help prepare them for their co-op work term
Students should take all of their courses seriously. Knowing the basics from the classroom will help to adapt quickly to their during their co-op term. Also co-op search should begin early. The earlier one starts, the better as this will provide more time to experience and embrace the opportunities the co-op term has to offer. It’s also important for every student to take ownership of whatever role he or she is given and work hard to be successful in it. This is because every co-op student represents his or her school during the co-op work term and also including achievements and (or) successes during a co-op work term on a resume will look excellent.

A major challenge for me was work/life balance. During my coop work term, I had so much I was handling, I struggled to balance all the activities and still have time for myself to rest.

How Lambton College prepared you for your co-op work term
I feel really great and happy with the preparation I got from Lambton College for my coop work term. Most of my job functions were things I was prepared to do, especially Power Point presentations. I am currently doing lots of presentations on a weekly basis. Also, I was prepared to write the various types of correspondence; formal and informal letters, memos, circulars etc. More so, my communication and leadership skills were greatly put to use in my coop work term.

Advice for new students to help prepare them for their co-op work term

My advice to new students is that most of what you are taught in class, you will find again in the real world. So take your studies very seriously. Also, communication is great key anywhere you find yourself, so to do well in the business world, you must possess good communication skills. Finally, Coop is a great work experience for anyone and must be taken seriously. No job should be seen as small or less paid, even when it is unpaid, the end result might be much more rewarding.
